It was intending to start with a clean sheet and build the view again as desired

I had already tried your option, unfortunately without result. Still no (default) colums.

Any option to restore the defaults for Explorer settings ?

Dear Bernd, Problem is fixed. Deleted default.mixer file and rebuild mixer from scratch. Also updated soundcard with latest drivers. Everything is working fine now.
