PF gives error after installing 4.0.4.7

Post by mark62 »

Hi Bernd,

Just installed v4.0.4.7 and when I start up the program it gives the message ProppFrexx ONAIR does'nt work anymore.

So far everything worked well.
I have the premium edition and work with windows 10.

Any option? Otherwise how can I go back to the previous version?

Regards Mark

I just provided a v4.0.4.8-update in which I rolled-back to the previous version of the audio engine (bass.dll), as this turned out to run stable again even with the latest windows updates.
In case you cannot run the update due to the above situation; you might also simply re-install the full version from the web.

Please indicate, if you are using the 64-bit or 32-bit version.

When you used the integrated update, there is as always, a "Previous Version" folder contained in your installation folder, which contains the previous version. You might copy its content back into the original installation folder (the parent).

But you should investigate, why PF is not working anymore - if you receive the message you indicated, this typically indicates a system issue. There should be a related message entry in your windows Event log explaining the details.

I don't think it is a general issue, as many users updated without any issue already. So I must assume, that this is something local with your setup/machine.

I'm using the 64-bit version.

In the detailed windows error reporting you see this (for me it's hocus pocus):

Well, the error is not directly coming from ProppFrexx, but from your audio sub-system, especially from a file called AUDIOSES.DLL, which seems to be causing the trouble.
So maybe you need to check, if you can update your audio card drivers...
It could also be, that you need to check for Windows Updates... so both might help.

From 1 soundcard the drivers were not up to date so I updated them. Windows is up to date. But unfortunately this did not solve the problem.

I restored the previous version so can go on. I hope the problem will be solved anyway so if you need more info please let me know.

But so far thanks a lot Bernd for your quick respons and support.

Kind regards Mark

Hard to say, if I resolve it, as the crashing AUDIOSES.DLL is a system file and ProppFrexx doesn’t even use that directly. So it will probably be called by your sounds driver.

To detect the root cause would it be possible to get a dump file once ProppFrexx crashed, ie. do not close the message window.
You can use the ProcDump tool to generate it:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sys ... 96900.aspx

For example, like this:

procdump -e -ma -x . "ProppFrexx ONAIR.exe"

Then ZIP and send me the generated dump file.
