Explorer building-up only with manual clicks

Hi Bernd,

It's been a while :-)

No biggy, but when I open the Explorer to check the play counter of all my music tracks (±3000) it takes approximately 30 minutes to get all the information in, and only with manual clicking in an empty area to get the list building-up. If I don't click, no information is building up in the Explorer. Any idea why this process is not done automatically and why it takes so long?

Thx, JW.

Time/Duration depends what columns you display In the Explorer window, as probably all TAG data might need to be read in first! So speed also depends on the speed of your IO system
So what columns are you showing?

But regardless the data should be made visible as soon as they are read in. I’ll double check this!

I honestly don't know the details of my IO system, and that it takes some time is also no problem on itself. The biggest issue is that the list does not build up on its own. I'll await your check!

As asked: What columns are you showing in the explorer window?
And have you applied some sorting to the columns?
I'll await your answer ;-)

However, so far I cannot reproduce the issue here with the latest version.

Hi Bernd,

Columns are:

- Name
- Artist
- Title
- Duration
- Modified
- Genre
- Year
- Grouping
- Size KB
- Age Last Played
- Last Played At
- Play Counter

Sorting on the last "Play Counter" column. I'm using version v4.1.5.6

Thx, JW.

Ahhh, I see. Now I can reproduce that - it is related to the sorting on the stats fields (e.g. Play Counter), if you for example don't sort it at all works better!
Nevertheless, that can be fixed/optimized, which I'll simply do ;-)

Hi Bernd, I just updated to v4.2.0.6, but I don't think the problem is fixed. Even worse, now it looks like a lot of songs are not played yet (play counter "0") but when I press Alt+2 the real amount is showed and updated in the overview list. At 17 minutes of waiting not half of the list is filled and the Play Counter shows values that I know for certain that they are not correct. Maybe another look from you? ;)

Than it must be something different and local probably as I cannot reproduce that here!
Please see, if removing the sorting for example changes things on your side?!

And please also try with a folder which contains less tracks, i.e. your IO-subsystem might be terribly slow. Note, that with the selected columns for each tack the meta data has to be read in from the files, when displaying the TAG values, plus we had to read the entry statistics - this means, that this is an IO heavy operation... plus the sorting values are changing over time, as the reading happens async in the background! i.e. first are the entries are displayed and then the meta data and stats are reading in the background and the values are updated as the are read in. For huge folders this might take time.
In my tests with a few thousand tracks in one folder take up to 30 seconds on local disks to read it all (still the files are displayed immediately, but the overall time is until all meta data is gathered and displayed)...all speed in the end depends on the IO speed.

Hi Bernd, I checked with my jingles folder (only ±200 tracks). Data is pretty fast loaded, but cannot be trusted. The play counter is not matching the real times played. I'm not sure what you have changed compared to last PF version, but it was better before...
