When a server accepts the connection and delivers back sample data to play; I must assume, that the server is alive an online. There is NO other way for me to detect this. Guess this is simply a bad behavior of your SHOUTcast server - and you must open a ticket against them.
Maybe you can try to test an ICEcast server - I guess this one is behaving a bit differently maybe.
