help to get midi controller mapped

Post by Gary Mac »

Hi Bernd, hope you are well :)

I have never before tried to link up a midi device to OnAir so I will try to provide you with as much
information as possible, in the hope you can help me get this working please.

This is a link to the midi controller I want to use:

http://www.presonus.com/products/FaderPort

The Faderport is a simple controller that I use for Cubase.

Concerning the controller:
On Air has seen this device in the routing section.

Before I worry about assigning buttons to the 3 DJ players, my priority
is to get the single hardware fader control working with OnAir Main channel strip.

Bear in mind that I am a newbie at this kind of stuff, and I have tried already to get it working
without success.

I would like to point out that the hardware single fader control is 'motorised.'

Next is a screen shot of the Midi setup I have tried working with:

Next is the reading I got from the monitor in midi settings my moving the hardware fader
up and down once:

MSG: 0x90 0x00 0x7F [Channel 0 NoteOn Key=C-2, Velocity=127]
MSG: 0xB0 0x2F 0x40 [Channel 0 ControlChange Controller=User15Fine, Value=704]
MSG: 0xB0 0x0F 0x05 [Channel 0 ControlChange Controller=User15, Value=5]
MSG: 0xB0 0x2F 0x00 [Channel 0 ControlChange Controller=User15Fine, Value=640]
MSG: 0xB0 0x0F 0x05 [Channel 0 ControlChange Controller=User15, Value=5]
MSG: 0xB0 0x2F 0x40 [Channel 0 ControlChange Controller=User15Fine, Value=704]
MSG: 0x90 0x00 0x7F [Channel 0 NoteOn Key=C-2, Velocity=127]
MSG: 0xB0 0x2F 0x00 [Channel 0 ControlChange Controller=User15Fine, Value=640]
MSG: 0x90 0x00 0x7F [Channel 0 NoteOn Key=C-2, Velocity=127]
MSG: 0x90 0x00 0x7F [Channel 0 NoteOn Key=C-2, Velocity=127]
MSG: 0x90 0x00 0x7F [Channel 0 NoteOn Key=C-2, Velocity=127]

Also I have the input device set as 'Faderport'
What do I need to set the 'Output Device to'?

Hopefully, you can view the information supplied and walk me through a working setup.

If you need any more information, please let me know.

Thank you Bernd

Could it be, that you have forgotten the closing brace "}" in the above command?!
Also make sure to set the 'Data2' value to 'Any' !
Some midi controllers might actually use two sub-sequent short messages to construct a paired message representing a single value range. This to support paired values with a higher resolution (16384 instead of 128 values). It seems your controller is doing so. In such case, make sure to enable the 'Auto Pair MIDI Messages' options in the GPIO midi options - to automatically detect paired messages for coarse/fine resolutions.

The 'MIDI Output Device' is only needed, if you also want to send MIDI messages from ProppFrexx to your controller - else you can leave this empty.

There posts might also help:

If your MIDI controller supports the Mackie control interface, also take a look here:

Still struggling with this . . .

I just tried to assign 2 of the buttons to show to show (a) The Explorer and (B) The Mixer Panel.

It's just bouncing between the two windows and in fact, every button on the controller is operating the
same function I assigned to the first button.

I am starting the think the controller is not compatible?

Please show what you have exactly set up in the MIDI mapping...
...also please provide some output what you 'see' in the MIDI Monitor when you press the 2 buttons...
