Playlist freeze after a 2h overlay

Post by fred48fm »

Hi,

We noticed a strange behaviour today.

We use the Overlay to broadcast some prerecorded shows and external shows.

It works perfectly for that, but yesterday at the end of a 2 hours show, the overlay player stayed open.
And with that, the playlist was freezed.

Even after long time it stayed like this, even after onsilence commands.

The only solution was to manualy click the cancel button on the overlay player.

Any idea ?

Thanks

Please take look to the ProppFrexx file called “Error.log” (See the AppUserData Folder), if it was a ProppFrexx issue it will be recorded there.

However, this more sounded like a driver (most probably a sound card driver) issue which was causing the hanging and was not responding any more.
You might take a look to the Windows Event log if you can find any application messages or warning there?!

Was that a local file you played via the Overlay? Or was that coming from a NAS or other remote resource? E.g. could it be, that there was a network issue?

Hi,

I've no error in logs and no error in windows events...
The overlay was playing a local file.

I've just listened to the audio archive of that time slot and the overlay finish normaly at the end of the show.
It's just followed by silence.

The background playlist (from 22:00 to 5:00) is configured with soft TimeUpdate Sync.

The thing is I used the exact same config for all the others overlay shows and have no troubles before...
The config of the the active program and the overlay are in attachment. Maybe I made something strange ?

Why did you select 'Manual Playout' with that overlay?

However, I do not understand when you say:
I've just listened to the audio archive of that time slot and the overlay finish normaly at the end of the show. It's just followed by silence.
Does that mean you tried ot a 2nd time and all was okay? Or does it mean your original recording contained silence at the end, which was the reason for the silence also in the first place?

We use manual playout because on some show, the previous live show can finish a little later.
So this prevent the overlay to be cancelled this option is used.
Is this option the reason of the playlist not restarting ?

For legal purpose we record all the day sound output by 4h slices.
On the record from 20:00 to 00:00 i have the full show, finishing correctly, followed by the silence from the playlist freeze.

Yes, correct, 'Manual Playout' also means, that it should end manually, ie. the subsequent program should be started manually.
I.e. I suggest, that you switch this option off.
As in your case (due to the 'Soft' start type) the first (any in your case only) track will regardless be started automatically in the overlay.

Ok then i will correct these overlays like this way :-)

I imagine i can achieve the same result with setting the max delay time to like 15min ?
So the overlay will wait max 15min before being cancelled ?

What i can't figure out is why this was working correctly without troubles for the previous days.

No...

For safety i added OnOverlaystopped : OVERLAY_DOCANCEL
So, in theory, this won't happen again.

I tried to use the overlay delay setting to force the element to wait until the end of the current live show, but that doesn't worked for me.
The overlay wait the "Show in advance" time + few seconds then cancel itself... It only wait if i use the manual play option (and soft start).

Before the overlay play, the system is set with :
MIXER_INPUT_ON_OFF PLAY
PLS_CURRENT_AUTOPLAY_OFF

Then at the end of the live show :
MIXER_INPUT_ON_ON PLAY
PLS_CURRENT_AUTOPLAY_ON

Where and with which events do you set these commands.
Note, that AutoPlay is turned off automatically when the Overlay is used! Using the PLS_CURRENT_AUTOPLAY_OFF command in parallel might also cause issues.
