Artist name in stream

Post by JWvanGulik »

Hello, I have some artists with a name like "Genesis vs Phil Collins" to avoid a track from Phil Collins being played after a Genesis track. In the stream display however, this looks rather funny. I would like to only display "Genesis" instead of "Genesis vs Phil Collins". Is there any possibility in PF to do so?
Thx, JW.

These are two different questions.
Are you talking about just the display, ie. song title update?
Or are you talking about a duplicate check of the song history.
The letter is ensured by NOT selecting the strict Artist check in the history options (see general settings, section Logging -> click on the More... button next to the global history ).

The song title update against the streaming server directly uses the provided meta data of the track, so there is no way, but changing your meta data accordingly.

Hi Bernd,
This is indeed only about the song title update. I still want the "relaxed" check to make sure Phil Collins and Genesis are not played after each other. I understand from your answer that it is not possible to e.g. get the artist name from a different field for the song title update to the server. Is that correct?

Thx, JW.

Oh, that is possible. The default song title update format is using the ${trackname} macro, but that can be replaced by any other meta data field macro, eg. the following: ${albumartist} - ${title}

This works. Another question I have is about the global history. Whenever I add new tracks to PF, I get a warning like "this song already exists in global history", while the track is new. Is it possible that PF looks to the artist only, instead of the artist-title combination?

No. PF looks for the current meta data and respects your global history settings in general.
So depending on your history check settings, it will evaluate the Artist, Title and Album settings (history) as defined in the general settings.
So yes, it looks for an Artist as well as Title violation - independently.
So if you want, you might reduce the value for the Artist checking.

I understand that it should work like that, but I get this warning when I add tracks where I'm sure of that they were never played (they are newly added). In other words, I think there is something wrong with this check.

You did not understand!
If your Artist history is eg. set 50 and the same Artist of your new track was already played within the last 50 tracks, you get a warning!
