Bed in voicetrack

Post by Radiofreak »

Is it true that when you do a voice track and you use a Bed of, for example, 2 minutes via the cartwall and you stop it after 40 seconds, the entire Bed is recorded? when I open the seque editor after the voicetrack the entire bed is displayed.

I am not sure, what you mean by 'use a Bed via the Cartwall.
If you play a cartwall 'live' it is just being played in the background and recorded as is in the length of the recording.
If you do it via the TrackInsert option, the cartwall track is logically referenced within the Voice Tracking and not even recorded, but as said, just logically referenced, so it even doesn't take any space at all in any recording - but yes, a track insert is first fully displayed in the segue afterwards.

So if I understand you correctly, is it true that if I start a cartwall track after the first track during the voice track and it stops halfway and then starts the next track, the cartwall track is always recorded in its entirety?
Is it possible when I have finished talking that I let the background music fade out?

E.g. Voicetracking:
1. Start recording
2. Start a bed (background music) via cartwall and talk over.
3. Fade out cartwall
4. Start next track
5. Stop recording

No.
Please try to read again. It is never actually recorded when you use the track insert mode.
Yes that’s possible but do not use the track insert mode and simply stop and fade out your cartwall when done.

Take a look to the Voice Tracking tutorial video in the general section here in the forum.

Then it is not possible to use the cartwall if you want to voice track on the same PC with which you use PF to stream. As soon as I click "do no use track insert" in the VT module, the cartwall is also heard on the stream. This is of course not the intention. Is there any way to do this?

Of course it is possible, but it seems your mixer setting has to be changed when you start voice tracking.
If you for example directly route your cartwall to a mixer output, which is also streamed for the normal OnAir streaming output, there is of course an issue!
That would be the same as if you route your Mic input to the streaming output! How could you do voice tracking without hearing the Mic in the stream?!! How have you solved that?
Either with a second Mic - or with routing the Mic during VT to another output!

Same issue here with the cartwall.
So do the same here. Note, that you also have 2 cartwalls which you can independently route and use.

And as a final resort, if you find all that not appropriate. Do your normal VT use the cartwall with the Traxk-Insert option as initially and when done, you can use the SegueEditor (even the one integrated in the VT module). In the SegueEditor you can then adjust the Cue-Out and Fade-Out cue point to shorten the insert track!

I think Benjamin has made a video of that exact "mixer-layout".

Creating a CW-channel, a VT-channel, routing the MIC and CW to VT and in "Voicetracking" choosing VT as the input. In that way you can record both the MIC and Cartwall. (Remember to set the fader on CW to the level you want the BED to be before voicetracking)
