libraries, media types, meta data tags
libraries, media types, meta data tags
I just want to confirm:
there is no way, for now, to have a folder with one media type tracks inside
for which new entries will be automatically changed to that media type
and saved to Meta Data TAGs ?
And a question:
Is There a way to remove media type from tracks that have it defined?
Changing "Jingle" to "Music" didn't make
"... entries in the library having no media type set so far."

Re: libraries, media types, meta data tags
For each Media Library you can define a 'Default Media Type':
This specifies the default media entry type for all tracks contained in the library having no entry type set.
As such, when you use a folder based media lib, all new entries added to that lib (and not having a media type set by itself or not having the global default 'Music' media type set) will get this entry type value by default!
So the answer to the first part of your first question is: No, you are wrong; the media type can be changed automatically for new entries.
However, this does not automatically save this default value back to the audio files TAG data!
You need to do so manually or e.g. from the playlist context menu 'Meta Data - Save Meta Data to TAGs'....
To your 2nd question:
You can not remove a media entry type, but you can change that to any value incl. back to the global default 'Music' value!
You can e.g. use the Metadata Editor/Tagger application (which supports direct tag editing of all selected tracks):
- open the folder in question
- make sure the column you want to edit is available in your playlist view
- else use the Column Chooser to add the column (e.g. Media Type)
- then press 'Ctrl+A' to select all tracks (or whatever tracks are relevant)
- now you can directly edit the cell value within your playlist
- any change applies to all the selected rows
- e.g. edit the 'Media Type' cell value of any row and press 'Enter' when done
- now all rows are changed accordingly
- click on the 'Save' main ribbon tab button to save all changes
- all changes are now saved to the TAG data of the audio file
This specifies the default media entry type for all tracks contained in the library having no entry type set.

Re: libraries, media types, meta data tags
So, if I apply „save meta data tag“
I cannot, using proppfrexx, change my mind,
remove saved characteristics and make entries “virgins” again.
I can only change them.
„... back to the global default 'Music' value! ”
Entries still appears “Music” in folder based media lib. ( default media type e.g. “Jingle”).
I make playlists manually adding entries from folders (Live, DJ mode)
and I have a colour for each media type.
That's why I would like
automatic changes entries media types and saving theirs meta data tags.
If that is not possible
I have to suggest two other solutions, both simulating folders:
One is floating playlist or simultaneous view of two playlists
with possibility of copy (drag and drop) entries from one (library) to another (live or under construction playlist).
2nd is an explorer like libraries look
instead or as a choice in “find” window (or extra library window).
Maybe some of these ideas are already possible.

Re: libraries, media types, meta data tags
forget folders.
that doesn't work like auto defining media type system.
but maybe it can work with libraries.
forget meta data tags.
no entries have it (added by proppfrexx).
I can open more then one playlist,
I can open libraries (with set default media types) like playlists and
I can drag and drop entries like from folders.
but drag and drop move them, not copy.
that is the problem left.
maybe that is something that can be resolved.

Re: libraries, media types, meta data tags
Just hold down the CTRL key to copy a file between two media libs (instead of move) !

Re: libraries, media types, meta data tags
Yes.I can only change them.
Where do those entries still appear?Entries still appears “Music” in folder based media lib. ( default media type e.g. “Jingle”).
How do you test this? Please describe the exact steps to reproduce!
Probably you have not reloaded the media lib or you are not getting the entries from the lib; but maybe directly from the folder!
Sorry, but I cannot follow you and understand what you mean!I have a colour for each media type
When you add a file from a folder its meta data TAGs are read in. This includes the given media type of that file.
When you add files from a folder, it does NOT matter, if you somehow also use that folder as a media lib.
It is difference to add a file manually from a folder OR add it from a defined media lib!
The default media type can ONLY be evaluated when adding a track from a media lib, but not from an individual file.
That's why there cannot anything be saved automatically.
If you mean something different, please describe that more exactly!
So when you want to use both: a folder based media lib AND the windows folder itself
And you want to make sure, that a media type is always the same - then DO NOT use any default media type in your lib!
Instead always TAG your audio files accordingly as needed.
That's the solution.
