Currently you cannot write the actual track's album image to a separate (external) image file by a simple bot command (I might add a related command in a next version).

The macros given above in this post deliver the image as a base64 string representation.
So theoretically you can pass this via EXEC_SHELL_COMMAND to an external application which then takes this and converts and writes it to an image file.

This related command you're talking about would be a great update.
we have exactely the same situation here for our DAB slideshow.
