What are the best settings for mixing and fading

Post by XTended »

I start a non-stop radioshow (dance) with ProppFrexx on our local station.
Is somebody familar with the best settings for mixing and fading?
I like quick mixing and fading: 2 music tracks playing, jingles, 2 music tracks etcetera.
Attached our mixing and fading settings.

There are no 'best' settings for all I am afraid - that's why they are adjustable.
I however prefer the following Automatic settings:
Fade-In: 10-50ms; Cue-In at: -40dB
Mix-Delay: 250ms; Next at: -19dB; Next has Priority checked
Fade-Out: 500-2500ms; Cue-Out at: -46dB
And under 'Special Mixing Settings', see 'Mixing per Media Type...':
Limit Segue to: -14dB; Segue-Length: 100-4000ms

User HDRadio, are you using that same settings also for Manual mixing and fading?

I am not usually manually cross-fade, so I have not tested these settings extensively:
Fade-In Length: 200ms
Mix Delay-Time: 500ms
Fade-out Length: 3000ms

Hi,
Can anyone suggest a better configuration? Bernd, have there been any improvements since the last post? At these values, it often happens to me that the next song starts quite abruptly. Should fade in lenght or general attenuation settings still be changed?
My General Attenuation Settings:
- Fade out: before 500, after 200
Fade in: before 200, after 500.
Attenuation: -12.00.

@radio delta: I am not sure, what needs to be changed?! The settings are super flexible and can even be aligned per media entry type.
If these are not good for very specific individual tracks, you can even define the cue-points manually for those tracks.
In what scenario does the next track start to abruptly? Note, that there is no once fit it all... it is your sound and segue signature.
It a track starts immediately, do you want that to fade-in? What, if a track starts with a vocal part? Fading that in might sound bad?
ProppFrexx 'only' analyzes the volume at the beginning and end, but could not check its content ;-)

For what do you use the Attenuation Settings?
These are typically only used for Track-Inserts or Voice-Tracking and can be adjusted also per media type.

So you are totally free to adjust those as you like - what needs to be improved here?
