Turning down the master volume with the keyboard?

Post by Nuno69 » 04 Sep 2019 18:53

hi, how can I turn down the volume of my master stream (not the volume my listeners hear), as I said in my previous topic, I am blind and music makes me unable to hear my TTS which refrains me from using Propp Frexx, so any advice would be appreciated.,

What is a TTS? Is that your text to sprach system?
If yes, what sound-card(s) are you using?
And do you use the same sound card for TTS as well as for ProppFrexx output?

And what do you understand under MasterVolume?
Is that your local monitoring volume only?

The default setting is to use at least 2 mixer output channels: one for the main output (the one your listener) hear and one for PFL.
The main output’s SND2 function has been set to ‘Auto at NoPFL’, which means, that the main audio is copied to the PFL at default operation.
As such you would have an independent mixer channel for your local monitor reference, ie you can lower its volume to also hear your TTS output!

Or in other words you need to make sure, that you don’t hear the main output locally, but use the same sound card for your PFL and TTS output.
Thus you require either two sound cards our a multi-channel sound card for such a setup.

Yes, TTS is my synthesizer. Its good that my screenreader has an audio ducking sound otherwise I would be really stuck. I have one soundcard, however if that's the only option I can use another one. It would just be harder to maintain

As said, maybe your sound card is a multi-channel card (e.g. a 5.1 or even 7.1), if that is the case you could use any stereo channel pair separately, e.g. with a 5.1 card you could use 3 stereo mixer channels.

If you however only have a single stereo sound card the above setup is also possible, but a real PFL function is not possible anymore!
E.g. you could define 2 mixer output channels:
1. PLAY: DriverModel=NONE, Output To=MAIN
2. MAIN: DriverModel=WASAPI (using your sound card), don't activate any SND function here

As a streaming source you now use the PLAY mixer channel. This means, your listeners will receive this audio signal.
As you also copy the 'PLAY' audio signal to the 'MAIN' mixer channel (due to the 'Output To' option) you can now lower the volume of the 'MAIN' mixer channel, which is your local monitoring channel.

As you can see, with a bit of creativity you have almost unlimited possibilities to chain and build your own virtual mixer with any number of mixer channels, (virtual) sub-busses etc. You can use the 'Output To' or 'SND' function to copy the audio signal fro one mixer channel to any other mixer channel or even multiple mixer channels.

I know that, it would be good if everything would be accessible! I will plug in my other soundcard
