Registration Modes

Post by radio42 » 13 Apr 2012 17:43

Note, that there are three different registrations modes available:
  • Normal Registration: The Ident-Number is tied to your local machine.
  • Harddisk Registration: The Ident-Number is tied to your installation hard disk.
  • USB-Device Registration: The Ident-Number is tied to a USB-Device (ie. USB-Stick).
Make sure to select the proper registration mode prior to registering!

You can enforce a certain registration mode by starting ProppFrexx ONAIR with either the “-fileReg” or the “-usbReg” command-line option (or directly in the following registration dialog). If you don’t specify any command-line option (or have not specified a certain registration mode in the registration dialog) the normal registration mode is selected. Each registration mode will generate an individual Ident-Number and requires a different license (registration keys)! Note, that once you registered ProppFrexx ONAIR with a certain registration mode you should use/run ProppFrexx ONAIR each time with this same option (e.g. if you registered with the USB-Device mode (e.g. by using the “-usbReg” command-line option or by selecting the USB-Device registration mode within the registration dialog) you should run/start ProppFrexx ONAIR each time with this same option)! Else the normal registration mode will be selected for which you haven’t registered and as such your obtained registration keys wouldn’t match!
Also note, that the USB-Device registration mode requires the USB-Device to be present at any time during ProppFrexx is running!

USB-Device Registration Mode:
Command-Line Option "-usbReg":
By default ProppFrexx ONAIR uses a machine related registration. This means the registration process ties the Ident-Number and the registration data to the local computer. This means, the registration is only valid on this computer/PC and if the machine configuration changes (e.g. your CPU, motherboard or network settings change) your registration might become invalid as the Ident-Number might change with it. As an alternative you can enforce ProppFrexx ONAIR to tie the registration to almost any removable USB-Device (ie. a USB-Stick). Use the above command-line option to do so. In this case the registration information will be stored on the root path of the selected USB-Device. This registration method has the advantage that you can use this USB-Stick even on different machines – but only on one at a time and the Ident-Number will not change, if you change your machine configuration! However, the USB-Device must be present all the time ProppFrexx ONAIR is running!

Before using a USB-Stick for your registration make sure it is formatted with either FAT32 or NTFS, it is not read nor write protected and it is recognized as a valid drive in your system.

!NOTE!, that the USB-Device registration will present you a different Ident-Number and therefore requires new registration data (and maybe a new license!) to be obtained from RADIO42!
This means, if you wish to use both (standard and USB-Device) registrations you need to request two independent registration keys (2 licenses are needed)!
If you selected the USB-Device registration method make sure to run/start ProppFrexx ONAIR every time with this command-line option! If you start ProppFrexx ONAIR and omit this option the standard registration will become active (for which you might not have registered so far)!

To start ProppFrexx ONAIR with the "-usbReg" option you might simply edit the created desktop link, ie. right-click on it and select 'Properties'. In the 'Target' field just add " -usbReg" to the end (without the quotes).

Hi Bernd.

I am unable to add -usbReg to the end of target in properties. I am getting error it is not a valid name for target. Shouldn´t there be some other command or different syntax of it?

By they way, if I want use sometimes demo and sometimes PF with USB registration, shall I create thus 2 icons, one normal (for demo version) and one for using with USB?

OK. It´s working now, I forgot to add extra speace in front of parameter.

Bernd, so if I want use sometimes demo and sometimes PF with USB registration, shall I create thus 2 icons, one normal (for demo version) and one for using with USB? Or can I, when using demo, then choose USB registration mode in registration dialog? You know, we have already discussed how we will use it for the students.

When the USB device is not present ProppFrexx is automatically running in Demo mode, so I guess there to need for an extra 'Icon' (Desktop Link).
Just remove the USb Device....?

Then you might have added that incorrectly?
The 'Target' command parameter should e.g. look like this:

Code: Select all

"C:\Development\BASS_new\ProppFrexx.UI\Samples\CS\ProppFrexx ONAIR\bin\Debug\ProppFrexx ONAIR.exe" -usbReg

Bernd, I tried to use one USB flashdisk on windows 7 machine, everything worked fine and PF did find it. But when I tried it on WinXP it was found in windows but PF did not recognize it. I used the same USB flashdisk.

That might be, as WinXP and Win7 unfortunately handle USB devices and especially flashdisks diferently.
There is not much I can do about this.

Bernd, this is very urgent as school director already bought USB keys. But if this should not work we have a big problem. Please, send me a private message if you do not want to discuss it here.
