Odd behaviour of slashes (“/”) in Artist tags

Post by szal77 »

Hi there,

I noticed that ProppFrexx seems to auto-replace slashes (“/”) in the Album tag of titles with a semicolon and a space (“; ”). Is that intentional or some kind of mistake? It makes some artist names pretty ugly; e.g. “AC/DC” is auto-changed to “AC; DC”.

Thanks in advance for clarification.

Greetings

The file in question is probably an MP3 file using ID3v2 TAGs.
The issue is, that the ID3v2 standard defines, that multiple artists are seperated within the related TPE1 tag field by a '/' character.
As ProppFrexx is fully ID3 complient, it seperate those multiple artists and presents them semicolon seperated.

This problem with the ID3v2 standard is, that it doesn't handle artists having a '/' in their native name - this is actually a known issue for ID3v2 tags.
The suggestion is to rename those artists to e.g. "AC\DC" - even if that is not their full correct name.
But there is not much to do and I don't want to break the ID3 compliance.

Thanks for the explanation. That most probably means that I’ll have to live with that. Not a showstopper, just slightly annoying. But as you said, it’s not your fault.
