Uninstalled ASIO Device keeps being selected

Post by Adger »

(Win 7 64, PFOA 3.0.11.10)

I had an ASIO-device installed that I since removed and uninstalled as advised by the manual. For some time now I am using another device that I installed after I uninstalled the previous one.

Everytime I start PFOA it keeps trying to initialize the uninstalled ASIO-device no matter how often I tell PFOA to use the other one. This really starts to p*** me off, since saving the mixer / setup does not help. I have no idea how to get rid of that and would like to ask what I could do - short of reinstalling win7 and my whole rig.

Any ideas?

The installed ASIO devices are registered within the windows registry (use 'regedit' to modify your windows registry).
at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASIO
respectively at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ASIO

So please try to loacted them at both of the above locations and remove the related keys for the ASIO driver in question.

The above key contains an entry for each installed ASIO driver.
The key for the related ASIO driver itself contains a sub-key called "CLSID".
You might now also search your registry for any of this CLSID value and remove them too.
E.g. within:
- HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\
- HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\

It sounds like the recommended uninstall wasn't really doing a good job.

After nagging ESI for some time they finally sent me a tool to forcefully remove any software and registry-entries that would have survived the regular uninstall. Looks like that is a "common problem" with their products. Since then everything is cool. Thank you for pointing me to the failed uninstaller / registry. That made me yell at (the unbelievably bad) techsupport at ESI...
