Advertising Management:
This comes as an extra tool/application which can directly be started from within ProppFrexx ONAIR or even independently (ProppFrexx Advertising.exe).
The default password for the ProppFrexx Advertising tool is "ProppFrexx".

This tool allows you to manage all your advertising partners and assign campaigns to these partners.
In addtion you define your logical advertising slots here.
An advertising slot is a placeholder which serves as a container to play out any partner campaigns.

An advertising campaign defines the time in which certain advert tracks should be played out with certain advert slots.
As such a partner campaign has (beside others) the following attributes:
- list of audio tracks assigned to the campaign
- list of advert slots in which this campaign should be used
- start time of the campaign
- end time of the campaign
Note, that within an advert slot only one audio track of the campaign will be used at a time.
You might however assigne multiple audio tracks to a campaign, to e.g. play a different/random audio track for each slot occurrence.
The advert slot assignement within a campaign is used to know when the campaign should actually be played.

Example:
You have defined the following advert slots:
1. 'Weekday'
2. 'Weekend'
Note, that you are using these slot names within the above Overlay-Scheduler to effectively play out adverts.
E.g. in the Overlay-Scheduler you might have placed several Overlay-Entries of type 'AdvertSlot-Weekday' and/or 'AdvertSlot-Weekend' to trigger the physical playout within ProppFrexx ONAIR.

You have futher defined the following partner:
1. 'Partner A'
2. 'Partner B'

Now you start defining partner campaigns, e.g. for Partner A:
1. 'Campaign 1': 17.09.2010 til 31.10.2010 with 3 audio tracks assigned to advert slot 'Weekday'
2. 'Campaign 2': 01.10.2010 til 31.10.2010 with 1 audio track assigned to advert slot 'Weekday' and 'Weekend'
3. 'Campaign 3': 01.10.2010 til 30.12.2010 with 2 audio tracks assigned to advert slot 'Weekday' and 'Weekend'
etc.
Same could be done for Partner B:
1. 'Campaign X': 01.09.2010 til 31.11.2010 with 3 audio tracks assigned to advert slot 'Weekday' and 'Weekend'
2. 'Campaign Y': 20.10.2010 til 31.12.2010 with 5 audio tracks assigned to advert slot 'Weekday'
etc.

As you can see each campaign has a validity period and a list of assigned advert slots - as such for any given day a list of campaigns are valid for the assigned advert slots.
Or in other words: for a specific advert slot and a given day a list of valid campaigns can be calculated.
And this actually happens when an AdvertSlot type is used in the Overlay-Scheduler.
For each campaign assigned to that given advert slot and day one audio track is taken from the campaign to add this to the Overlay-Playlist.

E.g.
You have defined an Overlay-Entry for the 17.10.2010 at 15:00h which should use the OverlaySlot 'Weekend'.
So for the slot 'Weekend' and the day 17.10.2010 the following advert playlist would be generated:
- 1 Track out of 'Partner A - Campaign 2'
- 1 Track out of 'Partner A - Campaign 3'
- 1 Track out of 'Partner B - Campaign X'

When using the same advert slot in other Overlay-Entries within the Overlay-Scheduler the same logical playlist would be generated (but possibly with other audio tracks, if you have defined multiple audio tracks per campaign).

Pretty simple, isn't it ;-)

Finally the Overlay-Player generates specific log files when an advert slot is effectively played out by the Overlay-Player.
The 'Billing' functionality allows you to generate Billing-Reports for a monthly period for all or selected partners.
This calculates the total advertising prices based on the slot/campaign info given.
The detailed billing report might even be exported to Excel, Word, PDF, etc.
Perfect reporting to write your advert bills.

Working with the Advert-Manager

Post by radio42 »

The Advert-Manager (as well as the Overlay-Player) is only available in the Enterprise or Professional Version!
Note: You must define an 'Advertising Storage Path' within ProppFrexx ONAIR to use any of these features (see the 'More Stuff' section in the general configuration dialog)!
The default password for the 'Advert-Manager' is 'ProppFrexx".

Overlay Scheduler and Player:
ProppFrexx ONAIR contains a seperate and independet Overlay-Scheduler.
The Overlay-Scheduler works almost the same like the already known Program-Scheduler, but as the Program-Scheduler start new Playlists-Windows and executes Scripts within these Playlists - the Overlay-Scheduler starts the Overlay-Player.
The Overlay-Player is an independent player/window which executes an Overlay (as defined within the Overlay-Scheduler) and sits on top of any playlist and is as such totally independent.

The Overlay-Player is capable of playing a kind of 'mini-playlist' - meaning it itself contains a small playlist which is loaded when the Overlay-Scheduler executes an Overlay-Entry.
Once started by the Overlay-Scheduler the Overlay-Player plays the defined 'mini-playlist' on top of any regular program.
As such, an Overlay might e.g. be used to play fix timed elements such as adverts, news, time anouncements, regular station-ids etc.

Within the Overlay-Scheduler you can define any number of recurring or non-recurring Overlay-Entries.
An Overlay-Entry defines (among others) things like:

Type:
- Advert Slot: an advert slot should be played.
- Script: a one-cycle script should be played.
- Playlist: the content of a playlist should be played.
- Input: a mixer-input-channel signal will be 'played'.

Playing-Command:
Depending on the 'Type' this denotes either an advert slot, a script or a playlist file to be used for the overlay.

Start Type:
Defines, if the overlay should start exactly at the given Start Time (fixed) or if it might be delayed (soft or auto).
- Fixed:
When a 'Fixed' start is specified the overlay will start at exactly this time and any currently playing track will be stopped immediately.
- Soft:
In case of 'Soft' start, the remaining playtime of a currently playing track will be evaluated. If the remaining playtime is less than the given Maximum Delay the track will play til the end until this overlay is started. If the remaining time is bigger than the Maximum Delay the track is stopped immediately and the overlay starts on time.
- Manual:
The overlay will be shown right on time but needs to be started manually!
- Auto:
Will use either 'Soft' or 'Manual' depending on the current 'AutoPlay' setting. In case of AutoPlay the 'Soft' start type will be used. In case AutoPlay is turned off, the 'Manual' start type will be used.

Options:
Specify the options to use with the overlay.
- LockPlaylist: The current playlist will be locked during the overlay.
- AllowEditing: The user is allowed to edit the overlay items (incl. adding/removing items).
- AllowDelay: The user is allowed to delay the overlay start (up to the 'Max. Overlay Delay').
- AllowCancel: The user is allowed to cancel/stop the overlay.
- AllowModeratorChanges: The user is allowed to change the overlay settings before it starts.
- StopAfterOverlayPlayout: The current playlist will not automatically be resumed once the overlay finished.
- Invisible: The overlay player will NOT be shown.
- AsPlaylistInsert: The overlay tracks will be added to the current playlist instead of being played in the Overlay-Player.

Reference Name:
Assigns an additional reference class name to the overlay.
A class name might be used to identify an overlay by an optional reference name. This might for example be used when importing overlays from an external scheduler application or to play overlays directly from within a playlist item.

Start Time:
The date and time when the program should start.

Show in Advance:
Defines the time in seconds the overlay is shown in advance of the actual start time (e.g. giving the user time to cancel, delay or edit the overlay).
Note: When set to 0 the overlay will NOT start automatically, but can only be started manually!

Manual Playout:
If checked the overlay entries (playlist) must be played out manually one by one - by using the PLAY button in the overlay player.
If the start type is not set to 'Manual' the first track however will start automatically.

Maximum Start Delay:
When an overlay is defined as soft start (so it doesn't have to start at exactly that time) it might be delayed by this maximum number of seconds.
When an overlay is about to be started the remaining time of the current track of the current playlist is checked. If the remaining time is less than this maximum delay time, the track will be played til the end before the overlay is started (which will then result in a delayed overlay start).
But if the remaining time is greater than this maximum delay time the current track is faded-out immediately and the overlay start will not be delayed.
Note: Overlays defined as fixed start will always start on time.

Mixing Time:
Is the mix time in milliseconds between the current program and this overlay.
When the overlay is started 'Soft' it is played this milliseconds before the current track of the current playlist is cued out.
Set to 0 to start the overlay with the 'Next' cue-point of the current track of the current playlist.

Suspend Program:
If checked the current Program/Playlist will be stopped while the overlay is playing, so that when resumed it will start with the next track; else the current Program/Playlist will continue playing and might be attenuated while the overlay is playing in parallel.

Pause On Suspend:
If checked and 'Suspend Program' is selected the current track of the current playlist will be paused at its current position instead of stopped/ejected - as such when the overlay finishes the playlist will resume from that position instead of starting with the next track.

Attenuation:
The current Program/Playlist will be attenuated by this value (dB) while the overlay is playing in parallel (if 'Suspend Others' was not selected).

Maximum Overlay Delay:
When an overlay can be delayed by the user, it might be delayed by this maximum number of seconds.

Bridge Track:
A bridge track might be used as a filler right before this overlay actually starts (only if the 'Suspend Program' option is selected). This to prevent a subsequent track of a currently running playlist to play for only a very short time.
The bridge track will always be played looped.
As an overlay commes up early (ahead of the actual start time, see the 'Show in Advance' time) the currently running (previous) playlist will be monitored at this time. If a current track of that playlist will end during this time, the bridge track will be played until the effective start time of this overlay.
Note: The Minimum Bridge Track Time is also concidered, if the remaining time (til the actual start time) is less than this minimum time, the bridge track will not be played and the overlay just starts early.

Allow Start Early:
If checked the overlay might start earlier than the actual 'Start Time' if a current playlist track ends just before it, but no longer than the 'Show in Advance' time.

As you can see an Overlay-Entry within an Overlay-Scheduler allows you quite a lot of features.
And depending of the 'Type'/'Playing-Command' you can use external playlist files, script entries or even advert slots to automatically load/generate the 'mini-playlist' for the Overlay-Player!

The Overlay-Scheduler calendar file is directly saved/loaded from the defined 'Advertising Storage Path' (see above, Note)!

In the 'Slot Management' select the respective Slot, right-click and select 'Edit Slot' or make a double-click on the slot entry.
In the upcomming dialog you can configure the slot settings.
Here you can specify the Opener, Separator and Closer Track for that slot.

What exact version are you using?

And could it be, that the selected Partner doesn't exist anymore in your Advert Lib?
Or that you have already deleted some Campaigns from your Advert Lib?

You might also try the latest v4.0.3.12-beta, which adds some more checks, in case you already removed a Partner or Campaign.

Yes, there are 2 tutorial videos in the general area of this forum.
However, as I am currently on holiday I cannot do any personal training or TeamViewer session.
